We've always wanted work worth doing for a lifetime — something that uses what we're good at, what we love thinking about, and that takes care of the people we love. For us, that's buying good businesses and keeping them.

We're patient by nature. Plum Beach Partners isn't a fund chasing a quick return — it's two friends looking for businesses we can be proud to own for decades, and keep improving for as long as we're lucky enough to run them.

What we look for

Businesses durable enough to own forever.

The question is simple — what makes a business durable? Answering it is hard, and most of our work is trying to quantify it. A few of the things we look for:

• A long history. It's been around, and it's survived the calamities that enough time all but guarantees.
• Deep goodwill — earned with employees, customers, and vendors alike.
• A reputation that can't easily be copied.
• A market position strong enough to control its own path — power to be used wisely and judiciously, never at a partner's expense.
• No single point of failure — it can run without one irreplaceable person holding everything together.
• Enough scale — generally $500k+ a year in distributable earnings. A soft line; we'll still consider low-effort businesses below it.

Winning over fifty years means every side wins — employees, customers, vendors, and us. Sometimes that means leaving money on the table. We think of it as buying the next fifty years: goodwill is an insurance policy, and over time it compounds into a stronger position than any short-term gain ever could.

Most of the owners we meet have never sold a business before — so here's exactly what working with us looks like.

• We move fast. When we're interested, you'll hear it quickly — and if we're not the right fit, we'll tell you straight. No dragging things out.
• We do our own work. No armies of consultants combing through your company — we take the time to understand it ourselves, and bring in a specialist only when something specific truly calls for it.
• You don't have to step away. We don't need to run things on day one. We're glad to keep your management in place, be a permanent home for what you built, and help plan the eventual transition whenever you're ready to retire.
• We stay close. We're not here to push anyone out. The people we buy from tend to become advisors, mentors, and friends over time — exactly what's happened with our first deal.
• Flexible terms. Every situation is different, so every deal is too — 100% up front, monthly payments over a decade, or anything in between. Whatever genuinely fits your goals.
